  Metronidazole Tablets

【Ingredients】

  2-methyl-5- nitroimidazole-1- ethanol.

【Indications】

  To treat intestinal and extraintestinal amebiasis, like amebic liver abscess, pleural amebiasis and etc; trichomoniasis, balantidiosis, cutaneous leishmaniasis and dracunculiasis. Now, it can be widely used in the treatment of anaerobic infection.

【Specification】

  0.2 gram each tablet

【Usage】

  1. Dosage of adults: (1) intestinal amebiasis, 2-3 tablets (0.4-0.6g) a time orally, three times a day, 7 days a course; extraintestinal amebiasis, 3-4 tablets (0.6-0.8g) a time orally, three times a day, 20 days a course. (2) giardiasis, 2 tablets (0.4g) a time orally, three times a day, 5-10 days a course. (3) dracunculiasis, 1 tablet (0.2g) a time orally, three times a day, 7 days a course. (4) balantidiosis, 1 tablet (0.2g) a time orally, twice a day, 5 days a course. (5) cutaneous leishmaniasis, 1 tablet (0.2g) a time orally, 4 times a day, 10 days a course and repeat it after 10 days. (6) trichomoniasis, 1 tablet (0.2g) a time orally, 4 times a day, 7 days a course; suppository could be used simultaneously, with 0.5g placed inside the vagina every night for 7-10 days. (7) anaerobic infection, 1 tablet (0.2g) a time orally, 4 times a day, 7 days a course; suppository could be used simultaneously, with 0.5g placed inside the vagina every night for 7-10 days.

  2. Dosage of children: (1) amebiasis, 35-50mg/kg a day according to weight in 3 divided doses orally, 10 days a course. (2) giardiasis, 15-25mg/kg a day according to weight in 3 divided doses orally, 10 days a course; the same dosage for treating dracunculiasis, balantidiosis and trichomoniasis. (3) anaerobic infection, 20-50mg/kg a day according to weight orally.

【Contraindication】

  Not for patients who have active central nervous system disorders and hematologic disease.
